Whiskers & Beaks

Whiskers & Beaks was formally created in 2022 when my son and I decided to put our shared love for animals to work and offer care to local families' beloved companions.

Jackie Mather

Professional Pet Care Provider, Creator of Whiskers & Beaks

I've been obsessed with animals my entire life; while other little girls wanted dolls, I was excited for the newest addition to my wild animal toy collection and I've aspired to work with animals since 2nd grade!

Animals I've personally cared for include cats, dogs, rabbits, gerbils, newts, fish, and toads. I began pet sitting while earning a major in Biology and a minor in Captive Wildlife at UW-Stevens Point. After college I was fortunate to experience a variety of animal positions as an internship at the International Crane Foundation, raising Whooping Crane chicks for release into the wild, volunteering as a bird bander and public educator at Hawk Ridge in Duluth, MN, observing Prairie Chickens as a research assistant in The Sandhills of NE, and volunteering as an environmental educator at Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary in Sarona, WI.

As a pet sitter, I provide intuitive, dedicated, and compassionate care for all animals I am lucky to be a steward of.

Looking ahead, my goal is to become a certified Professional Pet Sitter and continuing to learn about animal behavior to establish myself as an Animal Behavior Professional; extending my skills to help pet guardians provide the best care, address common issues, and ensure ethical welfare for their beloved companions.

Are you Insured and Bonded?

Yes, we are insured and bonded with Pet Sitters Associates. As a family-run business, myself, my son, and my husband are all covered to provide care.

How and when are payments made?

Payment must be received in full by the start of service. Payment can be made online or left at your home; we accept cash, check, Paypal, and Venmo payments.

Does my animal need to be good with children to receive services with you?

No. It is important for us to follow your pets lead to meet their needs, we understand that not all animals are tolerant or comfortable with children.

Is there a cancellation fee?

There is no cancellation fee. If you cancel by the start of your service, your service fee is completely refunded. If service is already begun and a cancellation occurs (ex: vacation ends early), your service fee can be credited to your account for future care as requested.

Are there restrictions for dog walking, regarding leashes?

Depending on your dogs activity level and temperament, specific leashes or harnesses may be suggested. Whiskers & Beaks will not use pronged choke collars while dog walking, due to ethical concerns for your animals.

Where can I learn more about you?

We are also on Facebook and you can read feedback from our clients in "PAWsitive Reviews"

What is a Meet & Greet?

A Meet & Greet is a free 30 minute appointment scheduled prior to providing services to gain an understanding of what helps your pet feel comfortable and well while you're away and what their specific needs are. During this time we'll determine the appropriate time allotment for visits.

Why is the Meet & Greet paperwork important?

During our Meet & Greet, we'll provide paperwork for you to complete about your pet that is due at the time of the first service. These forms provide the information we need to provide the best care for your home and pets, and outline a specific plan if an emergency arises with your pet. Paperwork must be completed at time of first service or services will not be provided.

Who provides primary care of pets? What is the back up plan for care?

The care of your pets will primarily be provided by Jackie. If your pets enjoy additional company and tolerate children well, her son may join her for some visits. In situations of medical emergency, Jackie's husband is bonded and insured to provided care for your pets.

Does a Meet & Greet guarantee services?

No. The purpose of a Meet & Greet is to determine if we are a good fit for your family and situation. We reserve the right to decline the opportunity to provide services to anybody, for any reason. If we are unable to provide services, we will promptly communicate this to you so you can find the best care option for you and your pets.
